| Q: Why do some of the belts have a black stripe running through them? A: This is known as a "Decided rank". This signifies that the student is halfway through the rank. In the higher belt ranks the material to learn is so extensive that it would be impossible to learn it in one testing cycle. The material is then broken up into sections that the student masters. The brown belt is generally done in 2 steps and the red belt in at least 3 steps. WIn the lower belts quite often the material is far too extensive for some students and the "decided belts" allow them to proceed at their own speed and ability. |
